In Loving Memory

Richard Bennett 'Dick' Bartley
March 4, 2013

Today it has been one year since Dick left us, he left an enormous hole in our lives, we miss his smile, his talent for making people feel
welcome and appreciated.  He was always willing to help anyone and everyone. He was loved by so many people, and especially his family.
We will always love and miss him.

One year ago today, Dick left us and we miss him very much.  It has been a hard year as he left a hole in our lives that can never be filled..
We will always remember him smiling, and wanting to help everyone.
He truly was unique in our lives.

Mom in hospital

The doctors have said all tests are ok. No tumors or metatasen, lungs are healing, the lungen embolie will heal.  They said I had a Guardian angel watching over me. Tomorrow after over a week in the clinic I can home. I know who my Guardian angel was. ..

The shock was enorm but now I feel positive. I have new medications, and feel it will all be okay.

Thank you for your calls and visits and prayers.

Fondly, Jan Dabbert-Bartley

Mom in hospital

Hi All,

I just spoke with Jan (Germany). She sounds great. Docs just found a blood clot behind one of her knees.
She is on blood thinners and plans to come home next Wed.

Love prayers to all.

Mom in hospital

Laura - Thanks for letting us know about your mom's condition.  As always, she will be in our prayers.
I'm sure this was really scary for her, but it sounds like she is in really good medical hands with the hospital and physicians.

Let everyone know we will be thinking of them and wishing you all well.

Love, Janice and Doug Jedele

Mom in hospital

Laura,

Thanks for letting us know. My prayers and love are with her. I had gotten blood clots in both lungs and right thigh when I had my partial knee surgery in 2011.
I was on Coumadin (Warfarin) blood thinner for about 6 months. I'm off that med now and clots are gone.

It is serious. Follow the doctor's orders and all of our prayers are with her.

Keep us up on how she is doing daily.

Love to all.

Mom in hospital

Thank you for the prayers and kind words. A blood clot to the lungs is a bit frightening.  I will be here for a week until they are certain there is no danger.
This the same clinic Dick was in and the same doctors and our cardiologist was the director here at the University Clinic.

Well it is late and I probably should sleep.

Dear Janet,

We heard from Laura that you are in the hospital.  We wish you a speedy recovery and a return to normal as soon as possible.
Tomi is in a bible study class and they say prayers for ailing relatives and friends each week.  You will be included.
We are in Minnesota visiting with Todd, Amy and Matthew.  Amy will be expecting a baby girl in February.

Mom in hospital

Hi Aunts and Uncles,

This year is truly up and down all the way.

I just wanted to let you know that Mom is in the hospital. She is fine now but will be in until next week Wednesday. It seems like the diagnosis might be thrombosis.
The doctors are still not sure what caused her situation. I am waiting for details from Timmy and Heidi who are with her now.
She really is fine now but happy to stay in the hospital, as she does not feel she can manage at home.

If you want to connect with her, she can read email on her iPhone. I can give you her personal hospital phone number but email will be nice too.
Dial 011 49 89 544883810.

Love you & miss you,

Laura Bartley

Memorial for Dick Bartley
Another nice tribute.  We have lost many.  I wrote to Jan Bartley recently that when I see Dick's picture on the website each day I still have a hard time
believing he is gone.  I am still trying to figure life out.  Of course it was unexpected and we did not attend his funeral and therefore did not have that closure.

In spite of losing so many so young, we have had some reasonably long lived ancestors.  Our Grandfather Ira, his father Samuel Moore Bartley and his
father George Bartley all lived to about 74 years.  These three did it in periods of time when many of our medical miracles were not Invented yet.
Joshua Bartley, like Dad, left in his fifties.

We have other ancestors who made it into their 80's.  Life is precious.

Today was a very special day, Dick's final resting place was finished, in time for the big day of the dead on November 1.
We will meet in the parish church in the village of Rechtmehring, Dick's name will be read,
a candle lit for him and then we will proceed to the cemetery and his grave will be blessed by the priest.

We here all feel Dick would love his gravestone, as he loved Stainless Steel for its reflections, it will reflect the beautiful surroundings,
the forest, the fields, the mountains and the beautiful forest and of course the lovely Blue and white sky of Bavaria.

Happy Birthday Dick

It would have been Dick's 71st Birthday.  He loved Birthdays and loved to celebrate at home with his family and as many friends here as he
could have. At times, his last birthday we had 18. The one before over 60.  He enjoyed the time to talk with each and every one here and after
they left he would sit for hours and talk about the evening.  Like a little boy.  It gave us great enjoyment to plan always something special for him.

Tomorrow, Laura and Mark and Tim and family will be here for Dad's Birthday dinner, lamb rost and all the trimmings.
Michelle and Heidi could not make it but will be here next weekend and we will do it again.

We love him and miss him so very much,

Jan and family

1940 CENSUS

The 1940 Census is now available.  The census lists Uncle Bud living with Mom and Dad in Chicago.
Dad was 29, Mom 28, Bud 23, Jack 5 and me 3.  Dad was working as an Insurance Agent and Bud as an Insurance Salesman (his life's work).

It was shortly after this census (1941?) that they moved to Michigan.

Sometimes in life, you find a special friend;
Someone who changes your life
Just by being part of it.
Someone who makes you laugh

Someone who makes you believe
That there really is good in the world.

I will be spending the day at Tim's, going to visit Dick' grave, bring him fresh flowers and just spending time with him.
A bench to put around the oak tree by his grave has been ordered and we are designing his
grave stone, we want to have everything finished by his birthday.
In September we are having a mass said for him at the Jesuit House where we go to mass.
An Irish friend of ours who sings here in the opera will sing his two favorite songs which were used for his memorial service.
He looked forward to celebrating our 50th anniversary so very much and renewing our vows as we did for our 25th anniversary.

 Dear Family and Friends,

We have been so overwhelmed with the kind words and support received from everyone.  We have so many cards and letters and
emails it is almost impossible to answer each one personally.  So please accept this written letter from all of us.

Dicks death although expected, came when we least expected it to come. We were hoping the therapy would work a wonder and give us more time.  But as he said, just a few weeks before, his life had been blessed in every way.  He worked in a profession he truly loved.  His partners, colleagues, clients respected him, and he did his best to give them a building that would meet their needs.  He was especially engaged for the elderly, the handicapped and those in special need.    He was blessed in our marriage, 48 years; we were hoping to celebrate our 50th in two years.  We were truly one person in our soul and mind and hearts.  Our four wonderful children, who have always given us joy, it has been a blessing watching them grow up to adulthood.  Our son’s and daughter in law, each one special in their own way.  They too are our children.  Then there are the four grandchildren.  Dick especially loved the time he could be with them and share with them.  They loved their Grandpa so very much.    Then the experiences we have had; coming to Europe, living here, learning a new culture, making new friends. Seeing so much of Europe, seeing history being made, experiences many people just dream of. When I think of our lives, it seems like we had lived two life times.  His family at home in the USA and his heritage were important to him.

The loss is so great; the tears seem non ending, the love for him so much greater.  He asked me not long ago, “Are you going to be ok?”  I had no idea of an answer for him.  I just never thought he would be gone.  He was always there for me, and now I must go alone.  With the children and friends and Dick watching over us we will go on for him.

We want to thank everyone for the cards and letters and for all the Masses being said for him all around the world, the donations for flowers for his grave.  He will never be with out flowers.  His grave is a beautiful place in the country, a very special cemetery with a view of the Alp’s, fields and forest, and an old oak tree, Tim is building a bench to go around it to sit on.  Dick is in a special place as well as in our hearts.

So please accept my love and gratitude for all you have been to Dick and to us

 Love and God Bless You.

Subject: Conversation with God

Me (in a tizzy): God, can I ask you something?
GOD: Sure.

Me: Promise you won't get mad?
GOD: I promise.

Me (frustrated): Why did you let so much stuff happen to me today?
GOD: What do you mean?

Me: Well I woke up late,
GOD: Yes

Me: My car took forever to start,
GOD: Okay....

Me (growling): At lunch, they made my sandwich wrong and I had to wait
GOD:  Hmmmm..

Me: On the way home, my phone went dead, just as I picked up a call
GOD: All right

Me (loudly): And to top it all off, when I got home, I just wanted to soak my feet in my foot massager and relax, but it wouldn't work. Nothing went right today! Why did you do that?
GOD: Well let me see..... the death angel was at your bed this morning And I had to send one of the other angels to battle him for your life. I let you sleep through that.

Me (humbled): Oh...
GOD: I didn't let your car start because there was a drunk driver on your route that might have hit you if you were on the road

Me (ashamed): ............
GOD:
The first person who made your sandwich today was sick and I didn't want you to catch what they have, I knew you couldn't afford to miss work.

Me (embarrassed): Oh.....
GOD: Your phone went dead because the person that was calling was going to give a false witness about what you said on that call, I didn't even let you talk to them so you would be covered

Me (softly): I see God
GOD: Oh and that foot massager, it had a short that was going to throw out all of the power in your house tonight. I didn't think you wanted to be in the dark.

Me: I'm sorry God.
GOD: Don't be sorry, just learn to trust me.........in all things, the good and the bad

Me: I WILL trust you God
GOD: And don't doubt that my plan for your day is always better than your plan

Me: I won't God. And let me just tell you God, thank you for everything today.
GOD: You're welcome child. It was just another day being your God and I love looking after my children.

WHAT A MIGHTY GOD WE SERVE!

keep ALL FRUITS & VEGGIES fresh

The key to preventing moldy berries...

Berries are delicious, but they're also kind of delicate. Raspberries in particular seem like they can mold before you even
get them home from the market. There's nothing more tragic than paying $4 for a pint of local raspberries, only to look in the fridge the
next day and find that fuzzy mold growing on their insides.

Well, with fresh berries just starting to hit farmers markets, we can tell you that how to keep them fresh! Here’s a tip I’m sharing
on how to prevent them from getting there in the first place:

Wash them with vinegar.
When you get your berries home, prepare a mixture of one part vinegar (white or apple cider probably work best) and ten parts water.
Dump the berries into the mixture and swirl around. Drain, rinse if you want (though the mixture is so diluted you can't taste the vinegar,)
and pop in the fridge. The vinegar kills any mold spores and other bacteria that might be on the surface of the fruit, and voila!
Raspberries will last a week or more, and strawberries go almost two weeks without getting moldy and soft.

So go forth and stock up on those pricey little gems, knowing they'll stay fresh as long as it takes you to eat them.

Jan,

All of you picked a beautiful, quiet, spiritual site. As I looked at the pictures and read  your words describing Dick's resting place, I
could feel how serene and calming the area is.  Dick would have picked that place.

Take one step at a time. Dick was so very in love with you and he was so proud of all the things you did for him. I could see that if you
were not there he wasn't complete---he needed you.

Love and prayers are with you always   Please give Michelle hugs and kisses for being there with you at your home this past week  You have
wonderful caring children they will always be there to help support you during the coming months.

God be with you.  I'll give u a call later this week.

Dear Bob, Judy and Janice,

On Saturday, we met as a family at a small pilgrimage chapel in the woods by Tim's home in Rechtmehring.  We had a lovely
Mass for Dick with a Jesuit priest we know here in Munich.  After the Mass, we proceeded to the small cemetery in  Rechtmehring for the
burial of Dick's ashes.  Enclosed are three photo's of the site.  He does not have a tombstone as we want to take time to chose one we like
and know Dick would like.  As it is a family grave for all of us it needs to be special.

He really looks over the little village and the alps and fields and it is so quiet and serene, birds chirping and forest all around.  We all
feel this is where he would want to be.  Both services were indeed very special.  The one last Thursday for everyone and this one on Saturday
which was very private.  After the service we went to eat and then to Tim's for coffee and cake.  Michelle and I spent the night and went
twice to the grave today before we left. Tim has said he would go daily when he can and Sylvia and the kids will go often. It is an hour drive
for me so I won't be able to go as often as I would like, but I know he will be well taken care of.

We are busy taking care of the legal matters, paperwork, and etc. Everyone is helping where they can  and doing what they are capable of
doing.  It is such a blessing as I could not do it alone.

It has been a very difficult two weeks, but the love that Dick generated is felt all around.  Cards are still pouring in daily and emails from
all around the world and that gives us strength and courage to go on.

God bless you all,

Jan Dabbert-Bartley and children

How to Lock Your Car and Why

I locked my car. As I walked away I heard my car door unlock. I went back and locked my car again three times.
Each time, as soon as I started to walk away, I would hear it unlock again!! Naturally alarmed, I looked around and there were
two guys sitting in a car in the fire lane next to the store. They were obviously watching me intently, and there was no doubt they
were somehow involved in this very weird situation . I quickly chucked the errand I was on, jumped in my car and sped away.
I went straight to the police station, told them what had happened, and found out I was part of a new, and very successful,
scheme being used to gain entry into cars. Two weeks later, my friend's son had a similar happening....

While traveling, my friend's son stopped at a roadside rest to use the bathroom. When he came out to his car less than 4-5 minutes later,
someone had gotten into his car and stolen his cell phone, laptop computer, GPS navigator, briefcase.....you name it.
He called the police and since there were no signs of his car being broken into, the police told him he had been a victim of the
latest robbery tactic -- there is a device that robbers are using now to clone your security code when you lock your doors on your car using your key-chain locking device..

They sit a distance away and watch for their next victim. They know you are going inside of the store, restaurant, or bathroom and
that they now have a few minutes to steal and run. The police officer said to manually lock your car door-by hitting the lock button
on the inside of your car -- not the key chain, that way if there is someone sitting in a parking lot watching for their next victim, it will not be you.

When you hit the lock button on your car upon exiting, it does not send the security code, but if you walk away and use the door lock on your
y chain, it sends the code through the airwaves where it can be instantly stolen.
This is very real.

Be wisely aware of what you just read and please pass this note on. Look how many times we all lock our doors with our remote just to be sure we remembered to lock them -- and bingo, someone has our code...and whatever was in our car.

Love, Bob Bartley

Dick's ashes will be buried on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 10:00 in Rechtmehring by Tim.  A Jesuit priest from the community we began
will hold the services for him.  This will be a very private service with just the family there.  We went yesterday to the cemetery to look
at the site and the children who had not seen it were very happy with the site.  The two littlest grandchildren, have promised to plant
flowers and water them and Justin is going to put his Guardian Angel statue there to watch over grandpa.  It is across from his school.
They loved him so very much.

Our Niklas had his shoulder operated on this morning, he had a bicycle accident on Saturday and broke his shoulder as well.

Well I just wanted to inform you of where we are.  The children have been wonderful, in making all the plans and taking care of legal matters
for me which I could not do.  We miss him so very much and the cards and letters keep pouring in with words of love,  I truly don't think he was
aware of what people felt for him and how he impacted their lives.  He was a remarkable person, husband and father.
He was my best friend for over 52 years and now to go on without him is going to be a challenge.
I hope that I am strong enough

Dear Janet,

Like Judy and Janice we also wish we could have been there to support you and your family.  We are still numb and feeling a great sense of loss.

Dick's illness and passing has been very difficult to accept,  We all know that we are not immortal and we face an end but it doesn't make it any easier to accept.

We are very grateful that we were together a couple of years ago and got to see Dick.  The services you held to honor him were wonderful.

We think it was nice that you put his M cap and golf ball with him.  Many years ago my best friend passed away and his family put his putter in the coffin.

We extend our love to you and your family, we know you will all miss Dick tremendously.  We appreciate the way you have kept us all informed at a time when you are grieving and exhausted.

My Dear Family,

It is very late and we have had an incredible day.  The children have left to go home, except our little one Michelle is here with me.

The ceremony for Dick was more beautiful than you can imagine.  The chapel, the flowers, the music. Our friend Richard Schenk who
officiated,  is a Dominican Monk, who was called here to be the president of the Catholic University in Germany.  It was so personal as
he has known us for over 40 years and been a guest in our home many times.  He spoke about the Architect Dick and related it to God as an
architect.

There were over 120 friends, co-workers, partners, clients, neighbors and our own family present.  It was truly a very moving and motivating
service for all  and sentiments expressed on Dicks person, character and relationship to people was for us overwhelming.  After the service,
Richard Schenk, two of our best friends and our immediate family went to lunch, then the kids all came back to the apartment for coffee, cake and
a light dinner.

Yesterday we went to the chapel, were able to see Dick and lay our letters to him in his coffin, tough and kiss him and we laid his
Michigan Cap and a golf ball in the coffin.

We ordered yellow and blue flowers from you, Michigan colors of course.
We will send a picture as soon as we figure out how to do it.

With all our love and gratitude for your support and love and caring

Tomorrow we are having a service with we think about a 100 people with a Benedictine Monk friend of ours who is the
president of the Catholic University  here inn the town of Eichstadt, from California.
Afterwards,  just the family, the priest and two very good friends are going to lunch. In 10 days the Urn will be buried
in the small village where Tim and Sylvia live, a beautiful site overlooking the village, the mountains and fields.
The service will be in a small pilgrimage chapel up in the woods behind Tim's house.
All very intimate and private just as Dick would want it. We went today to have 1 hour of private time with Dick at
the Chapel where he is being shown.  He looked wonderful and we all had time to spend with him and say goodbye and give
him a kiss.  We added his Michigan cap to the coffin and he never went anywhere without it.

Bracelet

Jan - I just called the funeral home and Kelly the woman who helped with David's cremation will be back on Thursday. You have the choice of no stones or stones. Did you want your birthstone and Dick's birthstone?

Kelly had the bracelet on and I admired it, thinking it was a regular bracelet. She told me it held her 24 year old son's ashes.
 He committed suicide.
I knew at that moment that that bracelet is what I'd been looking for.  I swim and shower with the bracelet.
It has only been off when I had certain tests in the hospital.

I have conversations with David (the bracelet) when it gets caught on something. I accuse David of reminding me he's with me and he's playing with me.  It brings a smile to my face. Of course, the people within hearing distance, think I'm crazy. lol

God has blessed me with the best brother anyone could have, along with having a beautiful wife, inside and out.

Hi,  I think you already knew that 48 Hours has been on board to do David's story for about 2 years. They have filmed Donna and Mark already.  Well, DATELINE called and they are also going to do a story and I think will also be filming at the trial.  Our producer with Dateline is getting Keith Morrison to be the correspondent for David's story. They want to protest David as my son and as a mother what I went through to keep the story in the news for years after he disappeared always around the anniversary of when he disappeared 6/25/88. If you don't know who Keith Morrison check on-line to Dateline. There is his picture and a history of his career. Hope all are well love and miss you.  Judy
The Road to Recovery

Dear Dick and Jan,

Like everyone else, we did not expect to hear your prognosis.

The medical treatment you will begin is the first step in getting well.  Keep in mind that the human body is powerful and capable of healing itself over and over again.
We hear about people recovering from illness and no one really understands why.  The body is truly remarkable.

We have been and will continue to be thinking and praying for both of you every day.

October 5, 2011

Dear Family and friends,

Today we were told the results of Dick's biopsy. He has a stage 4 tumor of the brain.  It cannot be
removed by an operation, so on October 18 they will give him 6 weeks of radiation, then six week
break and start him on Tablets for Chemo.

Keep checking his progress.
There is no cure for this type of cancer as it is a fast growing type.  The radiation will shrink it and kill the cells.

We were both shocked as were the kids, but we will be positive and live each day and look to the
future and all it holds for us.

Please keep him in your prayers and thoughts. keep writing to him and giving him encouragement.

Dicks progress

It is Sunday morning, I will be going to the clinic soon to visit Dick.
Yesterday he was chipper and up and about and the doctors said it looked
good.  He had to remain longer in the clinic due to his sugar and heart
problems.  He is also on cortisone and It raises his sugar level and
they have to control it.  As of yesterday they have begun to lower it
and will stop it soon.  I spend usually from 9 to 9 with him and then
Laura and Mark come and pick me up and take me home.

We want to thank you all for all your support and love and prayers.  I
am sure God was watching over him on Friday, and this weeks results
will be ok.  We are positive and trusting we will survive this.

Regarding Dick and the tests

Hello everyone,

Everything went well today for the biopsy and he can go home tomorrow. Next week we will know the results and what the therapy will be.
It has been a difficult two weeks not ´knowing how this test was going to go.
But he was in Grosshadern and had the professor perform the drilling and the biopsy and he is very successful.
So we are very relieved and grateful.

We want to thank everyone for their support and prayers.

HELLO EVERYONE.

WE WERE IN THE CLINIC TODAY FOR THE BIOPSY WHICH WAS TO BE DONE TOMORROW; BUT AFTER TESTING HIS BLOOD; DECIDED TO POSTPONE IT UNTIL NEXT WEEK:

His blood was still too thin due to the blood thinners he has been taking.  The professor said it was to dangerous as they would not be able to stop the bleeding.  So we had lunch there and then dinner and Dick had a nap and then we came home. So we will be there again next Thursday the 29th, if all goes well they will perform the biopsy on Friday.  Keep your fingers crossed and we can use all your prayers.

Love and all from us both

Hi family,

some news about Dick.....

It could be he did not have a stroke in May, but a place at the base of
his brain looks like a tumor or an abscess,  next Thursday they will do
a biopsy to determine what it is and then then what they should do.

This past two weeks he has had problems with his vision, reading and
forgetting things. We went last Friday to a specialist and did CT scans
and MRT to see what the problem could be.

He could use your prayers and words of encouragement this next week.

Love you all and miss you

Yes, You both have definitely proved you are survivors.  My prayers are with you for your surgery on Monday.

Good news my biopsy for the 3.8 cm nodule on my thyroid was benign.  Followup in 6 months with another ultrasound and biopsy if it is larger.
Very relieved. Good luck with your shoulder therapy.

Love to all with prayers, hugs and kisses.  Judy

Hi Janice and all others

We are home again.  Dick much better, I fell at the spa and broke my shoulder and pulled it out of the socket.

Most painfull.  I was in the op on Sat and the final op on Monday.  I have a lovely metal plate and 7 screws in my shoulder.

The next 3 months are going to be hard, but we are survivors as the past several months have shown.

Wishing you all love and God's blessings

Relaxing Recuperating
to Dick and Jan

Good morning,  Hope you both are recuperating and enjoying just being together.  Today is a restful quiet rainy day.
Getting wash done and enjoying Stuart sitting on me. Have my fine needle biopsy on Monday for a nodule on my thyroid which is giving me hoarseness and
a little breathing problem.  Sure all will be fine.
Could we schedule the reunion around the time the Volks Festival is?  Your email last September sounded so beautiful, as most of your emails do.
I would love to go to the spa for the day and have a European massage and mud bath/peel.
When I went through those 1400+ aim.com emails the other day, I read it.
Miss and love you. Only about a year to the reunion - I think about it every day.

Judy - your favorite short sister & short sister-in-law.

UPDATE ON DICK BARTLEY

We were in Munich until Wednesday noon, Dick has ulcers that were bleeding and now it is under control with tablets for the next four weeks.

Since then he is doing better, his doctor here said he has not had time to recuperate so they (he ) wrote a letter to the insurance company
asking for a week extention to his Kur.  They said they needed to know immediately, hopefully by Wednesday we should know for sure.  We have
already been  extended until Thursday the 7th but with another week we should be here until the 14th of July.

Tonight for dinner they had an asian buffet, the best I have ever seen.  A dream.

Michelle came back with us on Wednesday and stayed for dinner and then went back to Munich on the train and left the next day
for Berlin.  Isolde was here all day Saturday for lunch and dinner.  Today, Tim our son and his wife and the two grandchildren, were here.
The waitresses praised their behavior.

We are fine and looking forward to better weather that we can enjoy the rest of the kur.

More when we are at home.

UPDATE ON DICK BARTLEY

We are at the Lauterbacher Muehle Reha clinic.  It is beautiful, we look out our windows and see the Oster lakes, the mountains (alps and the
house we are in is fantastic.  We have an apartment, bedroom, living room and two bathrooms in an old Mill house .We have a balcony and it is
breathtaking to say the least.  The doctors and staff are wonderful, friendly and helpful and the food is worthy of 4 stars.

Dick was extremely tired the past few days, but today is doing better.  The doctors are monitoring him well and working on building up his strength.
They say everything looks good and no damage to the heart.  We are feeling more positive now.  On the weekend I was worried about him.
But he is in good hands.

check out www.lauterbacher-muehle.de and you can see where we are.

Well today is our 48th Wedding anniversary so I will end for now.

Love you all and thank everyone for your prayers and best wishes,
Dick appreciates it so much.

UPDATE ON DICK BARTLEY

Hi

It is 5:00 in the morning, I could not sleep, so I got up and ironed and am now answering emails.

Dick is home, it was very emotional for him coming home, the hospital had become his security blanket, but he is home, still tires easy, but happy.

On Tuesday, we go to the reha clinic for three weeks,  It is a special clinic for heart problems and supposedly one of the best in Germany and it is
only 1 hour from Munich on Starnberger Lake.
Near the farm we used to go to  a lot and near his golf club.  Munich has some of the best hospitals for heart problems in Europe, so the reha clinic
has met the same standards. He rejection last week is we have been told normal, they are very selective, but the doctors and professors in the clinic were
determined he was going there so they wrote letters in protest and finally they accepted.

His three weeks will be paid for, I have to pay my part with is less than his.  But we have a double room, my meals and I also can have treatments and massages and etc.

Well, maybe I will go back to bed and try to sleep before Dick wakes up.

UPDATE ON DICK BARTLEY

Dear family,

Dick was scheduled to receive two or one stents on the arteries to his heart today and the other on Thursday, Total of three.
Today the professor decided to do 5 stents around his heart.  It is beating irregularly at the moment, on Wednesday or Thursday they will
see if it has corrected itself if not he will receive a schock to the heart to regulate it.  He immediately wanted a piece of chocolate after
he came out and was very tired but when I left him tonight he was in good spirits.

Can't wait to get back to the the golf course.

All our love,

Jan and Dick

UPDATE ON DICK BARTLEY

Dick had a heart Catheter examination on Wednesday and they decided he needed three stents in the heart region.
His Reha has been postponed until this is done.
Tomorrow on Friday June 3rd he will be given two of the three and the third stent shortly after.  He is in good spirits and loves to have visitors.
He has been in two weeks now and he is getting bored.

E-mails from all of you cheer him up as I forward them to his cell phone.

He is so looking forward to his family visiting him here in Munich.  We talk about it and what we can show them and where
we can go and how many days and etc.

Our love to all of you, and please do write to him.

Love to you all,

UPDATE ON DICK BARTLEY

Today Dick had a heart catheter examination done and they found three areas near his heart that he
needs a Stent put in to widen the arteries.  They will do one or two on Friday and the third one possibly next week.
His rehab has been postponed for at least a week until he is stronger.

Yesterday he was down in spirits, but today back on top, his blood pressure which has been extremely low
is back to normal again.  He slept well last night and is looking forward to coming home perhaps on Saturday.

Just thought I would keep you updated, he is now more positive, it was a shock to him and it was also very scary.

But we are doing well and looking forward to your visit very much.

UPDATE ON DICK BARTLEY

It is Saturday morning,

Michelle came home last night and still came to the hospital to visit Dick.  He is doing well, still going through tests and next Wednesday they
will do a heart catheter to see if he needs another stent.
Then he can come home for a night or two and then on the 5th we will leave for the three week rehabilitation clinic together.

He is now more aware of what happened, but the two days in the coma he has lost.  Which is good for him.
We all love him so much and just want him to recover fully and come home to us.
I just spoke to him on the phone, 7:30 am.  He waits for me to come.

Love to you all,

UPDATE ON DICK BARTLEY

Dick was able to walk up and down stairs today, also go for a short walk in the garden of the hospital with me.
He still tires easy and will be going with me to a rehabilitation clinic for three weeks from June 5th to June 26th.
This will help him tremendously. This is short, but I am just too tired to write more.  9 hours a day in the hospital is a long day.
The doctors say I am his medicine and I could not stay home anyway.

UPDATE ON DICK BARTLEY

I have been in the hospital all day with Dick, Tim came, then Laura and Mark.  He was sitting up in, then able to walk around to the bathroom
and eat himself and no longer disoriented as he has been.

Tonight when the doctors examined him, they were extremely pleased with the change in him.  Tomorrow they will do a number of tests on him and
possibly move him to a normal room.  When I left, he was just going to sleep.  The whole staff like it when I stay with him
he is calmer and happier and they have less work.

Please continue to pray for him and keep him in your thoughts,

Love you,

UPDATE ON DICK BARTLEY

Laura and Tim and I were in the clinic with Dick all afternoon, he was moved to a private intensive care room and was doing so much better,
able to sit up straighter, talk, at times still confused as to what happened to or where he was, but when I left him he was laughing and eating by himself
and we have a very positive feeling.
He has no signs of side effects of the slight stroke if it even was one.  He has two stents and they feel in may need another for an artery that is partially blocked.

He said he dreamt that he had died and did not say goodbye.  His first question was: Where are the kids?
He was able to tell us he loved us and then he wanted me to take him home.

So thank you for all your prayers, he is doing ok at the moment and is getting the best care, the Heart Clinic is a part of the German University and his own
personal doctor is or was the Director of this clinic.

The kids are taking good care of me and Dick was so relieved, he was worried about me.  Typical Dick.
I love him and we need each other and we will be ok.

Love, Jan Dabbert-Bartley

REPORT ON DICK BARTLEY

Last night I took Dick to the hospital, they think that he had a slight stroke and is in intensive care in an artificial coma to help him heal while they do testing.
They do not know the reason he had a stroke.  We were able to be with him today and he was waking up from the coma and his vital signs were good.
They feel certain that there are no damages. He has had some heart problems lately, irregular heart beats, which they gave him a shock
treatment to help regulate it and it had functions.  They then changed two of his medications, and this could also have caused the stroke systems.

Please pray for him and a quick recovery.  He will be in intensive care at least over the weekend and in the hospital next week.
I am allowed to visit with him from 2 to 6 every day.  Laura and Mark and our best friend were with me.
